Raza excels on Vichitra Veena

Veena recital by Mustafa Raza. He gave at the outset, an elaborate alap (exposition) extending the tonal gamut of the raga (Yemen), and realizing its larger proportions. It was a beautiful overture- extremely well shaped and sweet of tone. One enjoyed the smooth flow of the instrumental sound its exquisite colours and subtleties or expression.

The slow teental gat, that came next, showed the raga in a serene and tranquil mood. Here melody colour and repose seemed to blend into a most felicitous effect.

Then drifting into a more lively tempo, the artiste gave a fast gat which went on gattling in speed plunging ultimately and inevitably into a frantic rushing finale.
